چکیده

In traffic engineering to effectively distribute traffic flows over multiple network paths, taking into account traffic characteristics for individual flows is vital in appropriately assigning flows to network paths for achieving better delay performance of the total traffic. All flows assigned to a path, in which some flows are heavily bursty, equally experience a significant queuing delay when the path is highly utilized. In order to find a better traffic distribution strategy over multiple paths so as to lower queuing delay incurred to multiplexed flows with distinct traffic characteristics, we analyze the mean, variance, and 99.5-th percentile of queuing delay when two types of flows are multiplexed into a single path using an infinite buffer model with on-off state fluid flows. From the analytical results, we found that trivial strategies, such as dividing individual types of flows in a proportional manner to the bandwidth of each path, or segregating distinct types of flows as much as possible, do not always achieve a good delay performance (e.g., in terms of max-min fairness), and thus, the flows should be distributed with considering their traffic characteristics, the number of flows, and the path bandwidths.

Identifying and Analyzing Stop and Go Traffic based on Asymmetric Theory of Driving Behavior in Acceleration and Deceleration

Stop and go traffic that leads to oscillate traffic flow frequently is observed on congestion flow. Unexpected reasons such as lane – changing maneuvers, lower speeds of leader vehicle and moving bottleneck cause stop and go traffic and amplifying delay and environment impacts. Stop and go traffic exactly can’t be modeled by traffic models, and also car following models based on kinematic flow ...

Method of Video-Measurements of Traffic Flow Characteristics at a Road Junction

In the theory of traffic flows the main characteristics are: intensity, speed, and density.  They make it possible to use hydrodynamic models. In connection with the development of modern highways and road networks, traffic flows behavior is becoming more and more complex and diverse. In particular, the B.Kerner studies have shown that the laminar solution of hydrodynamic models is poorly corre...

Simultaneous Workload Allocation and Capacity Dimensioning for Distributed Production Control

Capacity dimensioning in production systems is an important task within strategic and tactical production planning which impacts system cost and performance. Traditionally capacity demand at each worksystem is determined from standard operating processes and estimated production flow rates, accounting for a desired level of utilization or required throughput times. However, for distributed prod...
